Aleksandr S. Sigov is a Soviet/Russian physicist, Full Member of the RAS (2011), specialist in the field of Solid State Physics, Solid State Electronics and Materials Physics.
Academic Career
- In 1968, Aleksandr S. Sigov graduated (with honors) from the Faculty of Physics, Department of Quantum Theory at the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University
- In 1971, he has finished the Candidate of Science training at the Faculty of Physics of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. After that, A.S. Sigov was allocated to Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MIREA) where he has been working ever since.
- In 1972, A.S. Sigov received his Candidate of Science degree. His dissertation was titled “Statistical and dynamic properties of domain boundaries with transversal connections in thin ferromagnetic films.”
- In 1985, A.S. Sigov received his Doctor of Science degree. His dissertation was titled “Influence of defects on physical properties of crystals near structural and magnetic phase transitions.”
- In 1988, A.S. Sigov received his Professor title.
- In 1985–1998, A.S. Sigov was the Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Optoelectronic Devices at MIREA.
- From May 1998 to June 2013, A.S. Sigov was the Rector of MIREA.
- In 2006, A.S. Sigov has been elected the Correspondent Member of the RAS, Department of Information Technologies and Computing Systems, speciality Information Technologies and Element Base.
- In 2011, A.S. Sigov was elected the Full Member of the RAS.
- Since June 2013, A.S. Sigov has been the President of RTU MIREA.
Research Interests
A.S. Sigov’s research interests focus on physical properties of low-dimensional systems and/or systems with structural disorder, as well as design of functional nano- and microelectronic devices.
A.S. Sigov is a Member of the Science Committee of the Russian Security Council; Chairman of the Science Committee of RAS in Segnetoelectric and Dielectric Physics; Member of the Bureau of the United Committee of RAS in Condensed Matter Physics; Member of the European Physical Society, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Institute of Engineering and Technologies (IET).
Publications and Academic Advising
A.S. Sigov has authored and co-authored more than 300 scientific papers, 18 books and tutorials, and 34 inventions.
A.S. Sigov is the Editor-in-Chief of the following scientific journals: Electronics, Nanomaterials and Nanostructures, Russian Technological Journal. He is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Integrated Ferroelectrics (USA) and Ferroelectrics (USA) and a member of editorial boards of Russian and international journals: Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics, Microsystem Technologies, Engineering Education, Photonics, Fine Chemical Technologies, and many others.
He has supervised 19 Candidate of Science dissertations, 11 of his students went on to receive the Doctor of Science degree.
Awards
A.S. Sigov has been awarded numerous prizes and honors, including:
1997 Title of Honored Science Worker of the Russian Federation – for services to the country and long-standing fruitful work aiming to train highly skilled specialists and scientists;
2003 State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of Science and Technology – for the work titled “Scientific and technological bases for design of multicomponent materials and group technologies of cold and hot cladding;”
2003 M.V. Lomonosov Prize in the field of Science and Education;
2006 Order “For Merit to the Fatherland,” IV class – for contribution to Science and Education;
2008 Prize of the Russian Government in the field of Education – for the applied scientific tutorial ‘Methodology of formation of a proactive attitude amongst youth in education in the period of Russia’s transition to sustainability’ for the purposes of lifelong learning;
2011 Prize of the Russian Government in the field of Science and Technology – for development of effective algorithms of data processing and creation of fail-safe integrated computing systems, devices and components for aircraft safety;
2016 Order of Honor – for contribution to science, education, training of qualified specialists and long-standing conscientious work.
